The calls we get most

Most systems don't fail with a bang — they quietly stop doing their job

01

It came with the building

You took the place on and the system was already here — no manual, no history, no clue whether the monitoring's even still live. All fine, right up until the day your insurer asks you to prove any of it.

02

Nobody's touched it in years

It still arms, so it's easy to leave well enough alone, but batteries fade, detectors drift and the app hasn't been opened since installation. "It works" and "it'll work the night you actually need it" are two very different things.

03

You've been told it's beyond saving

The last company clocked the age of it and said it can't be worked on. Sometimes that's genuinely the case. Far more often it's just quicker for them to rip it out and start again — which isn't the same as it being necessary.

Where we go beyond the standard install

Some sites need more than a box on the wall. These are the jobs we're built for — designed around how the property actually operates and monitored so you're never in the dark.

Specialist

Self-Storage CCTV & Access

Unit-level protection for storage sites: gate access tied to CCTV, per-corridor coverage, and audit trails of who entered which unit and when.

  • Entry-linked cameras & number-plate capture
  • Per-tenant fobs & time-limited access
  • Full access logs for disputes & insurers
Specialist

AI-Monitored CCTV

Cameras that don't just record — they're watched. AI-driven monitoring and live remote oversight that flag what actually matters and cut the false alarms to almost nothing.

  • AI detection & verified alerts (real threats, not foxes)
  • Off-site remote monitoring & Camect integration
  • Deterrence with audio & live response options
Specialist

Alarm Monitoring & App Control

Your intruder alarm on your phone — arm, disarm and check status from anywhere, with monitored (ARC) options that get a real response, not just a beep.

  • Full app control & push notifications
  • Monitored ARC & keyholder response options
  • Works with new and existing panels

Fire Risk Assessments

We're building out a Fire Risk Assessment service to sit alongside our fire alarm work — helping you understand your fire safety obligations and identify the risks on your premises. It isn't part of our current offering yet, and we won't pretend otherwise: when it launches, it'll be done properly. In the meantime, we're glad to point you toward it as it develops.

Why Apex Property Compliance

A proper engineer, not a sales script

24 years hands-on

Two decades and more on the tools across South Africa and the UK. You get someone who's seen the system before, not a trainee reading a manual.

Independent & impartial

Not tied to one manufacturer, so you get the right kit for your property and budget — never whatever earns the biggest margin.

One point of contact

The person who surveys your site is the person who fits it and looks after it. No handovers, no call-centre queue, no being passed around.

Straight answers

If a job needs certification that only an approved body can issue — for police response or certain insurers — we'll tell you plainly rather than fudge it.

Local, not national

Based in Northamptonshire and covering the counties around it. Close enough to actually turn up when something needs looking at.

Aftercare that lasts

We don't fit and vanish. Servicing, support and a phone that gets answered long after the invoice is paid.

About Apex Property Compliance · Glen van Driel

Not just an engineer — every side of the trade

"I don't just sell and fit equipment. The job is to solve real problems and give people real support — that's what they're actually paying for."

Apex Property Compliance is run by Glen van Driel, and calling him "the engineer" rather undersells it. Across 24 years in fire and security, in South Africa and the UK, Glen has worked just about every role the industry has — from trainee technician to regional representative covering a 300-mile patch, through installation and service engineer and engineer supervisor, to operations manager and now Technical Director.

So when you deal with Apex Property Compliance, you're dealing with someone who understands the whole job, not one slice of it — and who'll still be your point of contact long after the work's signed off.

What I cover for customers

Sales & design

On-site surveys and full system design — the right specification for the property, worked out in person.

Project fulfilment

Installation, commissioning, ongoing maintenance and customer support — start to finish, all in one pair of hands.

Technical support & training

Backing up fellow engineers and office teams — the person others come to when something's got them stuck.

Audits & process compliance

Systems technical audits and process compliance — checking work stands up to scrutiny, not just switches on.

Health & safety

The H&S and administrative side that keeps everyone safe and the paperwork straight — not an afterthought.

Key-account support

First port of call for key accounts — they come to Glen directly because it gets them a straight answer, first time.

Experience that stands out
South Africa

High-stakes, no-margin-for-error work

Glen cut his teeth on serious infrastructure — working primarily with three major banking groups and two national petroleum companies.

He also supported the CCTV systems for events where failure simply wasn't an option: the MotoGP at Phakisa Freeway (2002–2004), and the 2003 Cricket World Cup across the Bloemfontein and Kimberley stadiums.

United Kingdom · since 2010

Thrown in the deep end — and better for it

Glen moved to the UK in 2010 assuming security would be a smaller world than back home. He was quickly proven wrong.

More often than not he was left to work things out for himself, with little support — long before there was Google or AI in your pocket to lean on. It built a deep, practical grasp of UK standards and compliance that sits behind every job today.

Standards & competence

Much of Glen's career has been spent working within NSI Gold accredited environments — trained and working to BAFE and NSI Gold-level standards, the highest the industry sets. Apex Property Compliance is an independent business and does not currently hold third-party accreditations, so we don't claim work carried out under them — but the knowledge, discipline and standards behind them are exactly what Glen brings to every Apex job.

"Do the job properly, and the customer sleeps a little easier — knowing they've done everything they reasonably can to protect their property, their business, and their family. That's the whole point."
— Glen van Driel

Common questions

Yes. We work on domestic and commercial property — from a house alarm to CCTV and access control across a commercial site. Whatever the setting, the approach is the same: design it around the building, fit it properly, look after it.

In most cases, yes. We regularly take on intruder, CCTV, access and fire systems fitted by others — servicing them, fixing faults, and upgrading where it makes sense. We'll check what's there and give you an honest view of its condition.

Often, yes. We work on plenty of legacy and "obsolete" panels — Menvier, Accenta, Gardtec, Visonic and similar — that other firms won't touch. Where a system genuinely has reached the end of the road, we'll say so and set out a sensible upgrade path rather than push you into one you don't need.

Yes. We can set up app control, monitored (ARC) intruder alarms with keyholder or response options, and remotely monitored CCTV with smart analytics — including self-storage and commercial sites where someone needs eyes on things around the clock.

We're honest about this: Apex Property Compliance does not currently hold third-party accreditation — and we're actively working towards obtaining it, as a clear goal for the business. In the meantime, what you get is 24 years of hands-on experience and work carried out to the relevant British Standards. And if a job specifically needs a certificate that only an approved body can issue — for police response or certain insurance requirements — we'll tell you straight so you can make the right call.
